‘Triumphantly fun’ Olivia Reilly

A One Act Dream

Pembroke, Tuesday 24th November, 7pm

Review by Olivia Reilly

You know you can’t be anywhere but Cuppers when you find yourself settling down to the rustic scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream only to have Bottom round on Thisbe for correcting his lines before the director walks on with Starbucks cups to find that the cast has already left. After a slightly slow start, this resetting of a play within a play within another play, about putting on a play in Woking, took off triumphantly as with great comic timing and sense of fun, the cast rode the abundant laughs. This was a great piece of experimental new writing, the insertions colliding with and defamiliarising the well known original and was handled with energy and enthusiasm by the cast.
