“A perfect Cupper’s Lads’ choice…good rapport all round” Sam Baker

Bouncers

Merton 26th November

Sam Baker

A perfect Cupper’s Lads’ choice, yet so much could go so wrong. How can the crass sexual innuendo be controlled, how can the concentration levels be maintained amidst the crude down to earth and brilliantly funny writing? This Merton lot seemed to have pulled it off very well.

The piece was hugely entertaining, and the production quite daring. Multiroling is always fun, and this was done to a very high level indeed. Contrasts in character, from male to female, was achieved soundly by all involved. One really felt a great sense of teamwork, not one person letting the side down. The energy levels were superbly maintained, and the actors seemed to gel nicely, so there was good rapport all round.

Pretentious without any real content – A level drama students with ideas above their station.

I think ‘pretentious without any real content’ is the cuppers requirement isn’t it? D i ck head.

In that case it certainly did a good job of filling those requirements. I’ve seen cuppers plays that escape being either of those things, though. I guess you’d say they were just an anomaly? No need to (pathetically) swear. Just giving a personal opinion, not raping your mother.
