‘A true Cuppers romp’ Olivia Reilly

Ghost Writer

Trinity, Tuesday 24th November, 8.30pm

Review by Olivia Reilly

A true Cuppers romp full of metatheatrical entertainment, this story of two mystery writers visited by the ghost of a three hundred year old writer who shows them the true limits of their authority as playwrights, was an ambitious undertaking. The abundance of props, costumes and the necessity of having multiple roles played by single cast members, were problems which all foregrounded the play’s preoccupation with the deconstruction of theatre and if the production itself in some ways partook of that unravelling of its medium, then this in itself added to the play’s sense of a deus ex machine – the ‘ghost’ in the machine.
