‘superb, a must-see’ Olivia Reilly

Top Girls

St Johns, Tuesday 24th November, 9.15pm

Review by Olivia Reilly

This is a compelling production, full of tension, complexity, and thought-provokingly intense. The standard of acting was superb throughout from a convincing assumption of early adolescence in the character of Kit to the nuanced realisation of family dynamic and complex relationships between sisters, Joyce and Marlene, and their daughter/niece. This latter role was undertaken with assurance by Meriel Cunningham, who succeeded in reconciling both sweetness and suppressed violence in the central character of Angie. Characterised by an explosive tension coupled with a naturalness and ease on the part of its actors and skilful use of the space to set up visual dynamics, this production is entirely involving – a real must see.
