Foursight Theatre Company return to touring with their latest show, Forever in Your Debt. This series of cautionary tales of fiscal failure makes its way to Oxford Playhouse on Thursday 4 March.
Forever in Your Debt tells of Vera, a lonely but idealistic office cleaner who can’t bear that her beloved skyscraper has such a miserable reputation. It’s the highest in the town, and from its unhappy edges those suffering financial despair live out their last moments as they teeter on the brink. Vera has cleaned up the mess too many times and so when an entire family appears at the top it’s all too much to bear. She has to stop them; and perhaps a band and a rooftop concert will put their sorry stories into perspective.
Featuring a live band and original music to help take us on the journey, Forever in Your Debt is what happens when grief, loss and debt are given musical instruments and asked to sing. This disparate, musical gang of recession renegades might not be able to pay the bills but they can still top it. Even as the bailiff repossesses their instruments, they’ll play to the last note, sing for their supper and if anyone has a penny to keep the lights on, put it in the meter.
Forever in Your Debt is a collaboration between Foursight Theatre and Talking Birds. Foursight is a female-led company that has been touring nationally and internationally for the past twenty-three years. It has gained an exceptional reputation for creating unusual, uncompromising and multi-disciplinary work. Talking Birds is a company of artists that has a national reputation in the UK for producing “stylish and compelling” work (Independent on Sunday) across a number of disciplines – including theatre, music, film/video, digital and visual art.
Stark, funny, absurd and anarchic, this co-production between the companies that created Thatcher the Musical! and Trevor Goose combines Foursight’s straight-to-the-heart humanity with Talking Birds’ reckless musical abandon. A must-see for anyone who’s had their credit card cutup in front of them.
